If you visit our Mazda dealership and chat with us about our vehicle selection, we’ll talk a lot about the excellence of the 2014 Mazda3 and Mazda6. We’ve gotten behind the wheel of both and are confident they are two of the best values on the road. Fortunately, you don’t have to take our word for it because Car and Driver positioned the 2014 Mazda3 and Mazda6 among their 10 Best Cars for 2014.
After a week of testing several new cars, Car and Driver named both of Mazda’s redesigned cars in its elite list. While being mentioned with iconic names like Chevy Corvette is an outstanding achievement for Mazda, it is indicative of the direction of the brand. Here’s what Car and Driver had to say about the Mazda3 and Mazda6.
“It’s in these newest models that Skyactiv seems most alchemical. Stiffer and lighter structures—the 6 sheds more than 200 pounds in its redesign—translate to improved handling. Engines with a lofty 13.0:1 compression ratio and direct injection help boost fuel economy as high as 41 mpg on the EPA highway cycle. Keeping with the company’s iconoclasm, its optional i-ELOOP electrification system makes Mazda the first automaker to employ capacitors in a regenerative braking system.”
The dichotomy of Car and Drivers Ten Best list certainly catches the eye and points to the diligence of the experts there. With the Mazda3i at the low end of the power spectrum at 155 horsepower, it also is among the most affordable of the bunch while the Mazda6 isn’t far behind.
Although many of us would like the get behind the wheel of an $80,000 sports car, it’s not a very practical option for most car shoppers. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun behind the wheel with affordable options like the Mazda3 and Mazda6.
Car and Driver isn’t alone in its praise for these two models, as Popular Mechanics named the 2014 Mazda6 its car of the year and Road & Track donned best-in-class designations to each model.
